As soon as Chalk and Notch came out with the Fringe Dress Pattern, I knew I needed to make it. I need more clothes to get me through Tucson’s stifling summer and this is perfect to beat the heat.
The Fringe Dress has 2 views but multiple options. You can make either a dress or tunic, go with the cut-out neckline or buttoned neckline, or have tabbed sleeves or cuffed sleeves. I went for the dress length with cuffed sleeves and the cut-out neckline.
Oh, and did I mention it also has the option to add pockets? Because what me-made dress is complete without pockets??
I made a straight size 10 with no adjustments. I love how to hem dips in the front as well as the back (pssst, it’s the same pattern piece!). You know I’m always down for a funky hem line. 😉
Let’s talk about this fabric! It’s a Japanese double gauze purchased 2 Christmas seasons ago from Miss Matatabi on Etsy. Purchasing from her can get very pricey, especially with shipping costs from Japan, but she had a huge sale going on at the time… score!
But what’s that print?
Check it out- it’s onigiri and tamagoyaki! That’s Japanese rice balls and omelettes, FYI. It doubles as a cute polka-dotty print, too! This green/chartreuse color isn’t usually in my closet, so I’m glad to see that it works with my skin tone. Gotta spice things up a bit sometimes.
I first wore this to an outing for Mother’s Day with DD’s sister and family and it passed the stuff-your-face-with-delicious-Mexican-food test. This also makes me think it would be a great maternity dress. Food babies = real babies.
I love how it’s loose yet you can cinch it in a bit with the optional ties. I added mine to the front darts so I’ll be pulled in from all angles. 😉
This dress is something a little different and I love that about it. It definitely gets compliments and I feel great wearing it. Plus, how can you not be happy while wearing cute Japanese food?
