I didn’t think I could love the Sewaholic Granville Shirt any more… that is, until I made it sleeveless!
The Granville is becoming a staple wardrobe piece for me. I made 2 long-sleeved versions (here and here) so I needed something a little more summer-in-the-desert friendly.
I followed this tutorial on making the Granville sleeveless and ended up also straightening the upper side seam so the bottom of the arm hole didn’t flare out as much. I think the adjustments were pretty spot-on as I don’t flash too much bra while wearing this!
I made my usual size 10 and sewed it all on my sewing machine. No serger needed when you do flat-felled seams! And since the shirt is sleeveless, it was much quicker to sew and only took me 2 short afternoons.
The fabric is a remnant I bought from SAS Fabrics here in Tucson. I’m assuming it’s a cotton lawn since it is somewhat see-though. It has a neat texture and I like the floral and dot pattern on it. I thought this kind of shirt would look great with buttoned front pockets, even though I doubt I’ll ever use boob pockets for much!
I either forgot to make bias tape when I cut this out a while ago or didn’t have enough fabric… but I used store-bought white single fold bias tape to finish the armholes. And I literally had JUST enough to make them! Whew, thank goodness because I hate last-minute trips to the store for a single item!
I love how Granvilles look with jeans, but I wanted to try a more work-appropriate look with my Colette Zinnia Skirt.
What do you think?
I’m stoked that I’ll be able to wear this with cardigans… namely my Blackwood Cardigan. No sleeves = no fabric bunching at my armpits!
3 Granvilles down, many more to go! I definitely don’t see an end to me making this pattern any time soon. 😉
Have you tried a sleeveless Granville yet?

This is fantastic! Great with the jeans and totally adorable with the skirt. I never do the boobie pockets. I think it really does finish off the garment nicely though even if they go unused. 🙂

Thank you! I actually put a roll of Smarties in one of the boob pockets for safe keeping at work. I guess they do serve a purpose!

ReAlly great shirt. I like it both ways! I haven’t made this pattern, but you have me convinced it should be in my list.

Thank you! It’s a very comfy pattern – I can’t stand to wear RTW button-down shirts anymore now that the Granville has spoiled me. 😉
