New Dutch Sewing Magazines and Coupon Code!

I am stupidly lucky and grateful that I have been able to visit Europe twice in 2 years. I love traveling and DD and I are big fans of hitting up Europe as much as we can. So much great food, culture, booze, architecture, and fashion!

On our belated honeymoon trip in 2014, we spent an afternoon in Delft, Netherlands and we have been talking about going back since. We made the quick trip because we were staying in Belgium and part of my heritage is from the Netherlands, so I wanted to set foot there, although briefly. It was so quaint and the people were super nice! I also met Rick Steves, famous travel guide, at a restaurant there. Can we say life goal unlocked?

So when I was contacted by the Netherlands-based company, Made By Oranges, to try out their new sewing magazines, I was all about bringing some European/Netherlands love back into my life.

Made By Oranges is comprised of 2 people who are starting their own sewing pattern magazine after working for a Dutch sewing magazine that unfortunately stopped a couple of years ago. They produce 2 magazines: My Image, which is geared toward us fashionable females (sizes XS – 3XL) and B Trendy, which is geared toward girls and boys, ages 1-14. My Image contains 16 patterns and B Trendy has 20. You can make a whole new wardrobe with just one magazine!

I have yet to make a garment from their patterns, but definitely plan to in the very near future. So I’ll just peruse the magazine with you and get that inspiration juice flowing!

Let’s look through My Image first:

There are so many pages with multiple versions of the patterns that it’s easy to get inspired and think of what you want to make. I am itching to make those M1660 trousers with the zipper and pocket details.

Those “droopy drawer” pants can be worn different ways – they look so chic on the model! Not sure if I can pull it off, though.

This is a pattern on my to-make list. A comfortable knit dress perfect for winter in Tucson! I might have to copy this almost exactly as I have a striped jersey begging to be made into a long-sleeved dress.

After loads of inspiration, you finally get to the pattern pieces. They do NOT have seam allowances included, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Which patterns appeal to you? I’m liking the M1653 jacket, M1656 Dress, definitely those M1660 Trousers, M1662 Blouse, and of course the M1665A/B Top/Dress.

I would probably recommend this magazine to intermediate to advanced sewists since the instructions are light on the diagrams. I love how it’s in so many languages. I was in Germany a couple of weeks ago and was looking at many sewing magazines, but ended up not buying them because my German sucks and I’m sure I would get stuck on construction details.

Alright, time to move on to B Trendy! It’s laid out identical to My Image and includes some really cute patterns for kids:

It’s hard to see here but I am dying over that exposed lace zipper detail on the shirt on the left of page 18. Too bad I’m not super petite – these pattern won’t fit me. 😦
