It has begun! The first week of Me-Made-May ’15 is over and I’m still keeping my pledge – at least 4 handmade projects worn per week. I know Sunday is technically the beginning of a new week, but for this blog, I’m considering it the end of the week to keep with my work schedule. 🙂
So far May has been really good to me. A few days ago, I took a road trip to Las Vegas with my friend to see the Nightwish concert at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. They’re a Finnish symphonic metal band (something like Evanescence) and their headliners were Delain from the Netherlands and Sabaton from Sweden. It was pretty awesome to rock out with Vikings!
I had never really spent time in Vegas before, unless you count just spending the night briefly on a cross-country road trip to move back home post-Hurricane Katrina. This was a very brief trip – only 1 1/2 days – but it was so much fun! I know I’m supposed to be talking about my handmade wardrobe for May, but I want to spice this post up a little with some Vegas eye candy. I brought my DSLR camera and wanted to get some cool artsy-fartsy pictures:
I spent the first day of May eating a breakfast buffet, doing some quick last-minute Vegas shopping, then heading back to Tucson for a 7-hour car ride. It WAS a long drive and I know you’re thinking we should have flown, but we couldn’t find any deals and I wasn’t about to spend $300 + on a plane ticket to Vegas. The Pacquiao/Mayweather boxing match was going on Saturday, so I’m guessing that’s why the prices were jacked up.
Anyway, enough of my micro-vacation, it’s time to get to the Me-Made-May pictures. I posted these on my Instagram, so follow me @sewredy if you want to see more! Or you can come back here every Monday in May to catch up on the previous week. 😉
Here’s my first MMM photo – busting out my Egyptian moves in front of the Luxor hotel where we stayed.
I’m wearing a triangle print maxi dress... or should we say pyramid print? Har har har. This was great to wear for the car ride home.
Saturday was another fun day. DD is really into brewing his own beer (it’s seriously the most delicious beer ever – commercial beers be damned!) and he wanted to check out an event by the Tucson Homebrew Club. About twice a year they get together and brew beer. This time it was at a local brewery, Borderlands, and although we didn’t brew, we got to meet some cool new people. DD isn’t a member yet but he’ll be joining soon. Yay for fun and delicious hobbies!
So for this event I wanted to wear this awesome t-shirt I bought in Vegas and since I don’t have many me-made bottoms, I wore my black maxi skirt. By the way, the t-shirt reads “Beer me right MEOW.” How could you resist?
Sunday was the day to catch up on errands and house cleaning.
I wore my Christmas PJ pants (unblogged) for lounging about. I made these in my first year of sewing… so about 3 or 4 years ago. I couldn’t resist the print! I wear them around non-Christmas time since they’re cotton and the house is way too cold around Christmas to wear these, so I bust them out in the fall and spring.
Then it was time to get out of the house (boo) to run errands. I was digging through my t-shirts and really wanted to wear this cat shirt, but it’s not me-made. So I grabbed my ’50’s Vintage Bra Top and voila! Pledge accomplished!
2 cat shirts within 2 days… I have a problem. I’m actually scared to count how many cat-themed articles of clothing and accessories I own. I’m sure it’s a completely acceptable number for a 31 year old, right?
So 3 days down, only 28 more to go! I’m glad I’m not attempting a handmade item every day – I still need to beef up my closet for that!
How did your first few days of MMM 2015 go? If you’re not participating, are you excited to see other’s challenges or are you just ready for May to be over? :-p

P.S. I just noticed today is STAR WARS DAY (May the Fourth be with you…) and with that fun fact unfortunately comes a sad one. One year ago today was the day the best chicken ever was taken from us by the neighborhood bobcat. This post is for you, Pretty Girl. We miss your delightful screeches as we pet you and hanging out with you perching on our arms. You’re always in our hearts. ❤ Bawk bawk!
Keeping my pledge too, but thinking I do not have enough items to go without repeats. I haven’t checked the photo pools yet, it just seems a bit overwhelming to look at it all.

I think I’ll definitely have repeats but I’m wearing more handmade items than I originally thought. May have to beef up my pledge next year. Good luck with yours!

oh my goodness! it’s probably good that you didn’t tell me you were here cause I would have FORCED you to see me hehe. I’m so glad you had fun though! it really was crazy here because of that stupid fight. the next time you make a trip we will have to spend a few hours together cause i’m sure we will talk each others’ ears off about sewing 😉

Yeah that fight made the prices all kinds of jacked up. My trip was sort-of last minute and we literally arrived at midnight Wednesday/Thursday and left at noon on Friday because the hotel would have gone from $75/night to $400 +. Cray cray! Next time I visit I’ll fly and make sure I have enough time so I’m not running around eating all of the buffets and squeezing in shopping/concerts/pool time/tourist stuff. Oh, there will be a day when we meet and we will talk about all things sewing and it will be glorious!

HOLY CRAP! i had to do makeup and hair for a group of ladies that day and i was SUPER lucky to miss all traffic before and after i did their services. but after the fight was over we went home from my bro-in-laws house and traffic was terrible EVERYWHERE! I will totally not miss that lol
YAY! i can go to a buffet and do touristy pool stuff too!!! and we’ll talk about sewing the whole time haha it sounds amazing!! i don’t have any real life friends who sew, so nobody understands

NOBODY UNDERSTANDS US!! Good thing there’s this whole weird sewing blogosphere thing to connect us all! Are there any good fabric stores in Vegas near the strip? Or is it all crazy expensive costume fabric madness?

Aw that’s a bummer! There’s not a whole lot here in Tucson, but at least we have a cheapo mill end store 🙂

Yes at least you have that! I just had my first online fabric purchase a couple months ago and it was really awesome! So I’m hoping to do that more. It’s just scary ordering fabric when you haven’t touched it!
