A Renfrew for Mom

I’m one of those people who aren’t embarrassed when they see someone else wearing the same dress/shirt/shoes as them. Actually, I find it very amusing and have made sure that DD and I have had matching me-made pajama pants… twice. But I won’t bore you with plain ol’ pajama bottoms on this fancy schmancy blog. Nope, I’m gonna hit you with another Sewaholic Renfrew instead, this time for my mom!

Mama RED’s birthday was a couple of weeks ago, so I wanted to give her something me-made with love. She also hinted at how cute my original chicken mama Renfrew was when she saw it in person, and I picked up on that hint. 😉

Here’s my original, made for me:

I actually had her try it on when I was in New Orleans last year, just to check the fit. My original shirt was a size 8 and it fit her well although my tweak to make it longer was wayyy too long for her. I’m almost 5’8″ and she’s around 5’2″ (I think). She is also a fan of v-neck t-shirts. So even though v-necks and I don’t get along sewing-wise, I bit the bullet, took my time, and only had to unpick it once! That’s versus previous four times unpicking a v-neck with my Oh, Deer! Renfrew. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Not too shabby…

For Mama RED’s shirt, I decided to go down a size since the fabric is pretty stretchy and she is built a tad smaller than me thanks to her basically living at the gym. I made a straight size 6 and didn’t tweak the length of the shirt at all. The length does not including the hem band since I left that off. I believe Sewaholic patterns are made for someone 5’4″, so since my mom is a little shorter than that, I figured that would be fine. I tried it on just to see how the fit was and it’s basically a belly shirt on me… but the feedback I’ve gotten from her is that it’s the perfect length. Yay!

I also made it short-sleeved since I really didn’t have enough fabric to do the 3/4 length sleeve as originally intended. New Orleans gets hot enough, I’m sure short sleeves will be fine. 🙂

Now we’ll have to coordinate our matching shirts when we’re together – we even have similar hair styles now, so that might get confusing, LOL. I know I would get a kick out of that… not sure if she would. 😉
